An overview of Road Trip - The Game

What is Road Trip?

A realistic road-trip from Darwin to Melbourne that requires planning and managing resources along the way. It is a classic board (or table-top) game, with an A1 sized folding board, tokens for each player, money and cards for vehicle types, accessories, missions, points of interest (POI), fuel and events.

Aim of the game:

To reach Melbourne with the most points. The game is over when the first player completes their ‘mission’ and reaches Melbourne. Points are gained by acquiring points-of-interest (POI) cards at significant spots. The harder to get to POI cards have higher point values, and mission POIs attract double points. Players also receive points based on how much cash they have, and the assets they have at the end of the game. Bonus points are awarded to the player who gets to Melbourne first.

Strategy:

Players choose what assets they start out with but can sell or acquire assets along the way. Each player must manage their assets and the resources they have to get to Melbourne and acquire points along the way.

Points of Interest:

The points of interest are real places and things that are amazing to see and do in real life if you ever get the chance. There is some information about the POI on the POI card, and also a QR code that you can scan with a smartphone that links to a website where you can get more information. The app, when developed, will also allow you to access this information quickly and easily.

” I loved playing Road Trip. Although I live in the top end, I never get tired of visiting the amazing places in the Northern Territory, and playing Road Trip has opened my mind to adventures further south too”
